Tony-winning director Julie Taymor is hard at work prepping Broadway newcomer Reeve Carney to take flight in her latest stage spectacle Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark (beginning November 14 at the Foxwoods Theatre). However, seeing the actor in Spider-Man won't be on the only opportunity this fall to catch Carney at work in Taymor's imaginative world, thanks to the December 10 release of her film adaptation of The Tempest. Taymor has conjured a new take on the Shakespeare classic by re-imagining the main character, sorcerer Prospero, as a sorceress named Prospera (played by Academy Award winner Helen Mirren). As young prince Ferdinand, Carney washes ashore the island where Prospera resides (thanks to a storm stirred up by her powers) and soon falls for her daughter Miranda (Felicity Jones). Taymor also enlists the help of talented stage stars including Tony winner Alan Cumming, Tony nominee Alfred Molina, David Strathairn, Ben Whishaw and Chris Cooper plus Djimon Hounsou and Russell Brand. As in her films Across the Universe, Frida and Titus, Taymor has used her own sorcery skills to create a visually stunning cinematic experience. Check out the eye-popping trailer below!
